What is NOK NOK?

Restaurant NOK NOK brings the authentic flavors of the Kingdom of Thailand straight to Tallinn’s Old Town. The authenticity of the dishes is ensured by Head Chef Thuleewan Boonyarattana, under whose leadership the most genuine Thai delicacies are prepared exactly the way they are traditionally made by the Thai people themselves.

The restaurant has six different dining areas. The largest hall, located deep inside the building, offers 42 seats, while a slightly smaller hall with a bar counter seats around 40 guests. The restaurant also includes three more intimate rooms, a seminar room equipped with a projector and other technical tools, and a fully equipped cooking school where up to 20 people can refine their culinary skills at once. Altogether, NOK NOK covers over 600 square meters of space.

Why the name NOK NOK?

Perhaps you’re wondering what the name NOK NOK means? The name was inspired by the building’s façade—on each side of the entrance, you’ll find bird figures perched on the columns. In Thai, „nok” means bird.

The building where NOK NOK is located dates back to the pre-World War II era. It is one of the few in the area to have survived the bombings intact—just like the birds. Why the former owners placed birds to guard the entrance and what species they are exactly remains a mystery to this day.

Since 2017, the mysterious birds have been greeting guests at Thai restaurant NOK NOK, keeping their watch as they always have. Step inside and get to know us!
